1 Very early Sunday morning, the first day of the week, the women went to the tomb, taking the spices they’d prepared. 2 They saw the stone rolled away from the entrance. 3 They went in, but didn’t find the body of the Lord Isa. 4 As they were puzzling over that, two men wearing dazzling clothes appeared to them.
5 The women were afraid and bowed with their faces to the ground. And the men said, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He isn’t here. He has returned to life! Remember what he told you back in Galilee? 7 He said that the Son of Man had to be handed over to sinful people and crucified. And on the third day he would return to life.”
8 Then they remembered Isa’s words. 9 So they returned from the tomb and reported it to the eleven disciples and all the others. 10 The women were Maryam from Magdala, Joanna, Maryam the mother of Yaqub, and several others. When they told the emissaries what had happened, 11 it struck them as nonsense, and they didn’t believe it. 12 But Peter got up and ran to the tomb. Stooping, he looked in and saw the linen wrappings lying by themselves. Then he went home, marveling at what had happened.
